Your vote is your voice. Your vote is your values. And your vote says you want to be counted.

by Carissa Barrett

A few years ago, I knew nothing about politics or what was going on. Sure, I occasionally skimmed through an article if it popped up on my Facebook feed, but the thought that always came to my mind was:

“My voice doesn’t matter. Someone else will take care of it.”

On top of this mindset, I had no idea where to start or what all of this “political stuff” meant. How do I vote? Am I even registered to vote? How do I figure out all of this stuff? The more I talked to people, the more apparent it became that a lot of my peers felt the same way. We felt we had no voice and no guidance. My mantra became:

“My voice does matter. Our voices matter.”

Far too many people feel they’re not qualified to make these sort of decisions. The truth is, you know what you believe. You know right from wrong. And your voice absolutely matters. We can no longer sit back and let important decisions be made for us without our participation. It is time to be heard.

It is time to SPEAK UP.
